How to Read a Feed & Speed Chart

Dedicated CNC machining guide: How to Read a Feed & Speed Chart.

A chart is source data, not a universal recipe. This guide shows how to read units, tool type, material grade and applicability.

Guide workflow

01Identify the cutter and operation
02Match the exact material or closest documented grade
03Check SFM/Vc and chip-load definitions
04Adjust for engagement, stick-out and machine capability
05Transfer the value into the correct calculator

What to verify

Use actual tool geometry, material grade and machine information. A mathematical result becomes useful only when its source data and physical setup are known.

Compare the calculated value with manufacturer documentation and the machine limits before production. For troubleshooting, change one major variable at a time so the observed effect remains traceable.
